We explored new sourcing in 2023 for our Sumatra, and we are very pleased with the quality of this washed coffee from the Gayo region of Sumatra. Nearly all coffees in Sumatra are wet hulled, but we are starting to see a bit more washed coffees come across the radar. We find the washed process produces a much cleaner and sweeter coffee, with more consistent results, and this is certainly true with Mukti Ali. We don't take the roast profile too deep on this one, as we want to maintain and accentuate the natural sweetness that is inherent in this coffee.
This lot is from the Mukti Ali washing station, and coffees contributed were from many small share farmers. Nine out of 10 coffee farmers in Sumatra grow coffee on less than one hectare of land.
